Mrs. Elizabeth Dockery, Band Director
Mrs. Dockery is a Cum Laude graduate of the School of Music at the University of North Carolina - Greensboro, where she received her Bachelor of Music in Education and Oboe Performance. While at UNC-G, she studied with Dr. Ashley Barret, oboe professor, and participated in the University Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, Symphonic Orchestra, and various chamber ensembles. Mrs. Dockery completed her student teaching under the direction of Mr. Phil Homiller at Asheboro High School.
Before attending UNC-G, Mrs. Dockery was a student at Myers Park High School. While at Myers Park, she was a part of the Myers Park Marching Band, where she served as Assistant Drum Major, and also was principal oboist in the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. Mrs. Dockery participated in many activities while in high school. She was the principal oboist of the Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestra and made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2002. Mrs. Dockery also was principal oboist of the Charlotte Youth Wind Ensemble and the Carmel Baptist Church Orchestra.
Mrs. Dockery began teaching at CHMS in December, 2006 and made her directing debut for CHMS by taking the 6-A Band to the District Concert Festival in Monroe, NC on March 22, 2007.
Mrs. Dockery is currently a member of the Winthrop University Carolinas Wind Orchestra and recently traveled to Spain with this ensemble. She is also a local oboe and piano teacher with many students in the area and performs with Quintessence, a local woodwind quintet. Outside of the band room, Mrs. Dockery enjoys spending time with her husband, Steven. Steven, a highly accomplished saxophonist and bagpiper, works in human resources. Together they enjoy traveling, performing in their church orchestra, swimming, reading, and playing with their two kittens, Felix and Buddy and their puppy, Gracie.
